A packed parcel’s dimensions can affect its chargeable weight. Get the actual route’s divisor, rounding and limits before comparing quotes; do not treat a product’s recorded weight as the final parcel weight.
The existing guide separates item costs from shipping. This article looks at a narrower problem: why two parcels containing similar-weight goods may produce different shipping calculations.
You will leave with: A dimension-and-weight record that makes two shipping estimates meaningfully comparable.
LoongBuy Spreadsheet parcel measurements: use the final package
Measure the outside of the packed parcel, including any protruding area, and keep length, width and height in the units the service requires. Record the actual packed weight separately. Individual item or QC-record weights do not include every part of the eventual parcel.
DHL publishes guidance on measuring parcels and using dimensional weight for large, lightweight shipments. It is a useful worked example of the concept; your available LoongBuy route may apply different charging rules.

LoongBuy Spreadsheet volumetric example: calculate the space used
DHL’s example calculation uses length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5,000 to obtain kilograms of volumetric weight, then compares it with actual weight. That divisor is a carrier example, not a confirmed rule for every LoongBuy route.
Invented example: a packed box measuring 40 × 30 × 25 cm has a volume of 30,000 cm³. With a divisor of 5,000, its volumetric weight is 6 kg. If its actual weight is 3.2 kg and that example service charges the greater value, the starting chargeable figure is 6 kg before its rounding or other rules.
| Example | Outside dimensions | Volume | Volumetric result at ÷5,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original box | 40 × 30 × 25 cm | 30,000 cm³ | 6 kg |
| Smaller box | 40 × 30 × 20 cm | 24,000 cm³ | 4.8 kg |

LoongBuy Spreadsheet shipping comparisons: hold the inputs constant
Compare quotes using the same destination, postcode where required, actual weight, outside dimensions and goods description. Record the divisor, chargeable increment, size limit and what each quote includes. A quoted per-kilogram number without those inputs is incomplete.
The smaller example box reduces the calculated space, but that does not establish a final cash saving. Minimum charges, rounding, eligibility, packaging services and the current tariff can change the outcome. Retain enough protection for the contents.
- Ask for the packed dimensions and actual weight.
- Check the specific route’s charging method and applicable restrictions.
- Record both quotes with the same inputs and date.
- Decide only after seeing the available final charge and packaging plan.
LoongBuy Spreadsheet parcel questions: ask for comparable figures
A Reddit shipping question shows how easily buyers can mix different stages of shipping charges. Use it as a reminder to clarify the calculation for your own parcel rather than adopting a commenter’s price or timetable.
For parcel [ID] to [destination], what are the packed dimensions, actual weight and chargeable weight? Which divisor and rounding apply to the selected route, and which charges are included?
