LoongBuy Spreadsheet shipping tariffs: first weight and additional units

Turn a chargeable weight into a tariff calculation, with an invented example that shows why a small increase can cross a billing step.

THE PRACTICAL ANSWER

Read the first-weight allowance, additional-weight increment and rounding rule together. A price per additional unit is not necessarily a price per kilogram.

Knowing a parcel’s chargeable weight is only the first part of reading a quote. This article handles the next calculation: how a stepped tariff turns that weight into a base charge. The separate volumetric-weight article explains the weight input.

You will leave with: A reproducible tariff worksheet, with the rate assumptions and extra charges kept visible.

LoongBuy Spreadsheet freight units: identify the starting allowance

LoongBuy’s official freight page describes a first-weight unit as the minimum charged allowance, with weight beyond that allowance charged under the additional-weight rule. This is a definition, not a current price list.

Copy the actual route’s terms into your notes: currency, first allowance and fee, additional increment and fee, and how partial increments are treated. If a field is missing, ask before calculating.

LoongBuy Spreadsheet tariff example: count started increments

Invented tariff for learning only: the first 0.50 kg costs CNY 35, and each started extra 0.50 kg costs CNY 12. In this fictional rule, round the number of additional increments upward. These numbers are not a LoongBuy quote.

For 1.01 kg, the excess is 0.51 kg. Dividing by 0.50 gives 1.02 increments; rounding upward gives two. The base charge is therefore 35 + 2 × 12 = CNY 59. A route with different rounding would need a different calculation.

Chargeable weightAdditional units in this exampleExample base charge
0.50 kg0CNY 35
0.51 kg1CNY 47
1.00 kg1CNY 47

LoongBuy Spreadsheet quote comparison: retain the complete inputs

Keep the calculation attached to the route name, destination, quote date and chargeable weight. Comparing the additional-unit fee alone can hide a different starting fee or increment.

Write down any separately listed handling or other charges and what the quote says is included. Leave unspecified charges as unresolved questions; an arithmetic subtotal does not establish the final payable amount.

  1. Record the route, date, currency and chargeable-weight method.
  2. Copy the first allowance, additional increment and rounding rule exactly.
  3. Calculate the base charge, then reconcile it with the quoted total and itemised extras.

LoongBuy Spreadsheet billing questions: locate the difference

If your result differs from the displayed quote, send the inputs and calculation together. Ask which field differs instead of treating a nearby weight boundary as evidence of an error.

WORKING NOTE

For [route / destination / quote date], I used [chargeable weight], first [allowance / fee], then [increment / fee / rounding]. My base calculation is [calculation]. The quote shows [total]. Which weight, rounding rule or separately listed charge explains the difference?
