Identify whether the chart measures a body or a finished garment, then compare the same measurement method with a reference garment. A familiar size letter is not enough.
A spreadsheet photo can show a style you like while leaving its fit unresolved. This article handles the measurement decision before you choose an option; the buying guide covers the wider ordering process.
You will leave with: A short comparison record you can use to ask one precise sizing question.
LoongBuy Spreadsheet size charts: identify what is measured
A chest measurement can describe the body the garment is intended to fit, the circumference of the finished garment, or a flat width measured across it. These are different quantities. UNIQLO explains the distinction between its product measurements and body dimensions, while Patagonia explicitly presents body-based charts.
Record the units, chart heading, measurement diagram and exact item option. If the listing does not explain the method, ask for clarification rather than filling the gap with a size conversion from another brand.

LoongBuy Spreadsheet fit comparison: measure something you wear
Choose a reference garment with a fit you actually want: a roomy sweatshirt is a different reference from a fitted shirt. Lay it smoothly without stretching it and record where the tape starts and ends. A photograph of the tape position makes your question easier to answer.
Use the seller’s stated method where possible. Sleeves measured from a shoulder seam cannot be compared directly with sleeves measured from the centre back of the neck. Treat an elastic waistband’s relaxed and stretched measurements as separate observations.
| Field | Record in your comparison |
|---|---|
| Chest | Flat width or circumference, plus the tape position |
| Length | Starting point and finishing point |
| Sleeve | Shoulder seam or centre-back method |
| Waist | Relaxed or stretched; flat or around |
| Units | Centimetres or inches for both records |
LoongBuy Spreadsheet sizing example: compare like with like
Invented example: your reference sweatshirt is 56 cm across the chest when laid flat. A listing states a finished flat chest width of 58 cm using the same method. The listed garment is 2 cm wider across that measurement. Doubling those widths gives 112 cm and 116 cm, but only when a simple flat-width-to-circumference comparison is appropriate.
This calculation does not decide your ideal size. Fabric stretch, cut, layering preference and how the seller measures still matter. If the chart instead says “body chest 112 cm,” it cannot be substituted into this flat-garment comparison.
LoongBuy Spreadsheet sizing questions: resolve the missing field
Keep the listing URL, selected option and your reference measurements together. Request the missing measurement or its method. If the answer remains ambiguous, leave the size undecided until you have enough information.
For option [colour / size], does “chest 58 cm” mean flat garment width or body circumference? My reference garment is [measurement] using [method]. Please confirm the measurement points.
